I'd always been active, healthy and for the most part maintained a size 8-10 body.
Sure, I yo yo'd up and down a bit, but I always knew what to do anytime I wanted to slim down.
Running, Yoga and lots of whole foods were my reliable go-to strategies until...
At 48 my body suddenly changed.Ā
I noticed more fat on my arms and belly - places that'd never been an issue before.Ā
At first I was perplexed - I mean - I was far from perfect but nothing much about my lifestyle had changed.Ā
I couldn't figure it out.Ā
I upped my running distances and cut back on treats - but that just flattened my energy!
Everything felt squishy and unfamiliar.Ā
I gained a whole dress size.
I no longer felt good in my clothes.
I didn't want to go shopping because I didn't like anything that actually flattered my frumpy shape!Ā
So I dressed to hide.Ā
My friends tried to convince me that this is just what happens in midlife, it's a normal part of perimenopause and there's not much you can do about it.Ā
As an ex-nurse, I knew there had to be a physiological reason my body composition had shifted so dramatically.Ā
I also understood that belly fat's a sign of insulin resistance - a precursor to chronic lifestyle illnesses like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and dementia.Ā
Given I had my daughter Gracie at 42,Ā I became determined to figure it out!
I went down a research rabbit hole
At first I devoured the books and podcasts looking for answers.Ā
And while I got some clues, I found the 'expert' protocols were over-complicated and not that practical - I mean, I still wanted to enjoy a social life!!Ā
As a self-confessed geek with a deep love of learning, I did the only thing that made sense -Ā I went back to University.

I studied psychology, strength & conditioning and sports nutritionĀ
After a year of DIY'ing it and making little to no progress, I went in search of the truth.
I wanted to know if it was possible to lose stubborn peri/menopause weight simply and sustainably - without extreme diets, without spending hours in the gym, without giving up my social life!
The answer was a resounding YES!
I figured it out.
I lost the weight and I've kept it off for 4 years now.Ā
Today, at 53, I'm back to being the size and shape I feel best.
I love to wear feminine clothes that hug my curves.
I'm fit, toned and energised.Ā
I'm almost never hungry, I still enjoy my favourite foods and I regularly eat out with my foodie boyfriend.Ā
Sure, perimenopause still kicks my butt every now and again with sleep disruption, achy joints and longer recovery times - but for the most part, I'm thriving.Ā
