Hey, I’m Sarah

My mission is to empower women to get stronger, healthier and more vital through peri/menopause so they can lose harmful belly fat, finally feel like themselves again and avoid chronic lifestyle illnesses - and frailty - as they age. 

I’m an ex-registered nurse, certified Health & Wellbeing coach and I’m 3 papers away from completing my BSc - Psychology major, Strength & Conditioning minor.

‘Life’ got in the way, your willpower failed you, you hit exhaustion or got injured.

It’s not YOU! It’s them!

Much of what we’re taught in popular media - even by scientists - lacks nuance & is unsustainable.

I’ve been where you are. 

At 48 I suddenly gained 5 kilos - mostly on my belly and arms (RANDOM!). 

I also had really achy joints, kept waking up at 3am feeling anxious, started losing my hair and suffered such terrible brain fog I couldn’t remember anyone’s name - even people I knew well - it was so embarrassing!

I spent hours devouring the ‘expert’ advice in books, podcasts and social media - and put in a monumental DIY effort.

I started lifting heavy AND doing HIIT - but wound up sore all the time and completely exhausted!

I upped my protein and cut back on carbs  - but noticed my stress levels were through the roof - and my sleep got worse.

I even gave 16 hour fasts a really good nudge - but THAT became unsustainable too. 

And the belly fat STILL didn’t shift - at least not for long - it was so frustrating!

So, I did the only thing that made sense to a self-confessed geek with a love of learning…

I went back to University to study the science for myself!

Stubborn belly fat’s NOT a sign of weakness - it’s a distress signal

It’s a sign of insulin resistance which is a precursor for chronic lifestyle diseases such as: metabolic syndrome, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cognitive decline, and even some cancers. 

Deep belly fat - or visceral fat - is metabolically active. 

It drives inflammation and releases cortisol. 

The reason it shows up in midlife is multi-factorial.

Muscle loss with age - lowers your resting metabolic rate.

Peri/menopause symptoms reduce day-to-day movement - even if you’re disciplined with exercise.

Chronic stress - drives cravings for high sugar & high fat foods and/or alcohol.

All these factors put you in an energy surplus and create insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance drives the excess energy to be stored as harmful visceral fat (deep belly fat).

Visceral fat is metabolically active causing inflammation and even more cortisol production. 

It’s the perfect storm!

I’ve learned to savour my favourite treat foods and drinks without losing control.

I feel energised, focused and rested most days.

My sleep has improved beyond belief - without medication.

I don’t spend hours in the gym (3 hours a week max).

I have so much energy and vitality - I’d feel completely selfish keeping this approach to myself!

Fun Facts

  • I live in Christchurch New Zealand with my 11-year-old daughter, Gracie and my rescue cat Chamonix. 

  • I’m stronger than most 19-20 year olds - I know this for a fact because I do strength testing at my university alongside school leavers.

  • I’m a qualified Yoga and meditation teacher and I’ve been told my body scan meditations are ‘out of this world’.
